Getting Started
Please make sure to turn your date/time stamp settings off.
Make sure your settings on your digital camera are for its highest resolution. This will ensure better quality for your photo cards.
Lighting Settings
- Natural light is the best lighting. Remember to take your pictures during peak daylight hours.
- Stay within the flash range when using flash. Your photos will be dark the farther out of flash range you are. If you are not familiar with your camera's flash range, stay withing 10 feet of your image.
Ideal Picture Settings
- Always use solid colors for clothing or blankets when preparing for your family/baby photos. This will bring out your family's or baby's features.
- You can create a beautiful photo by using black or white fabric or a blanket.
Capturing Active Moments
- Capturing actions shots is a better way to enchance your photos than a posed photo. Some suggestions are: a child playing, sleeping, yawning, hugging...
- For baby announcements, showing the bottoms of the feet, their hands, holding a parent's finger, yawning, snuggling are a great way to let everyone know about your little bundle of joy!
Tips and Tricks
- Getting physically closer to your subject than zooming will provide a more intimate photo.
- For a baby, it is best to get at their eye level and use different camera angles by moving around.
- Get lower and take the picure at your subject's level. This will showcase the photo from your perspective.
- Taking a picture vertically is more pleasing to the eye than horizontally. This is great for your holiday photo cards or for family photos.
- There is a rule of thirds that photographers follow. When you are looking through the lens of viewfinder of your camers, divide up your frame in verical thirds and horizontal thirds. Move your subject a third to the left of right instead of centering. This will capture your scene much better. Using the Focus Lock while doing this will help also.
Focus Lock
If your subject is not the focus of your picture, you will need to lock the focus for a sharper picture. It take three steps to lock your focus. Center your subject and hold the shutter button half way down. While still holding the button, reposition your image so it is not center. Next, take your picture.
